- In Texas, women-owned firms number nearly 434,000, or 27% of all privately held firms in the state, according to the Center for Women’s Business Research in Washington, D.C. Of these firms, more than 92,000 are employer firms with nearly 789,000 workers and sales exceeding $105.7 billion annually.
- In addition, the number of these firms grew by 46% from 1997 to 2002, or 11 times the growth rate (4%) of all employer firms in the state.
- In 2002, Texas women-owned businesses ranked third in the number of national women-owned firms, as well as second in employment and second in sales, according to the center.
- Between 1997 and 2002, the center estimates that the number of women-owned firms in Texas increased by 14%, with their employment growing by 44% and their sales by 63%.
